My phone just kicked up an old photo from two years ago when I got a haircut right before the lockdown. It seems like forever ago. The lockdown altered my lifestyle pretty significantly. There was online schooling for Eliana and my college classes switched to all online. I quit breast-feeding, but kept eating. The community rec center closed and I also started baking more bread, cookies and cupcakes. None of this was without consequence.
My doctor announced this winter that I not only moved up into the overweight BMI category, but was also prediabetic. At forty-five, I am a triple-risk for being old and gross.

Last month, my health insurance sent me a card saying they were doing a free workshop to lose weight and live healthier. I signed up and they sent me a box with a Fitbit, a portioned plate, some exercise bands and a book for calorie counting and food tracking. I love little activities, so setting up my Fitbit app was satisfying.
This morning was sunny and delightful, so I got up early and took a walk with Ivy to the park. 4,000 steps! We swing by the coffee shop on the way back and I had a latte and got her a cookie, but I ended up eating half of it. When I entered the calories into the app I realize that my net gain was 150 calories for the outing. So far it’s not going well, wish me luck.
