If you want to see less abortions in America, then I suggest that you vote for Kamala Harris this November. I know that this may seem counterintuitive, but the number of abortions actually goes down when Democrats are in office.*
The reason is that it is not the lack of availability of safe abortions that makes women seek fewer of them, but the circumstances that women and girls find themselves in while pregnant.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, 74% of women who seek abortions do so because “a child would interfere with a woman’s education, work or ability to care for dependents.”
It’s all well and good to say that you approve of fetuses coming to full-term, but those babies become children and those children are dependent on women who need to finish their schooling, work and care for children. 59% of women who get abortions already have children.
The Vice President’s proposed policies are consistently stronger when it comes to sex education, higher education, family leave, healthcare, fair pay for women, resources for minorities (who disproportionately seek more abortions), and childcare. If you truly value life beyond the womb, then you will vote accordingly.
**The exception to this correlation is that after the Dobbs ruling changed abortion regulation from federal to state.
