Meet the pufferfish. They seem cute and innocuous, but if they feel threatened or startled, they puff up and get all spikey and toxic. The fish may look adorable, but have enough poison to kill thirty humans. There is no known antidote. The only creature that is immune to them is the shark.
Some people are like pufferfish, they protect themselves by hurting others first. Most of the time, they are pleasant. Everything is cool until they feel threatened, hurt or offended then the spikes come out. If you trust them with your insecurities or shortcomings, they may store them to use against you when they are angry or disappointed. They can also can twist things to hurt people as well. If they’re always a potential victim, then anything they do or say to prevent harm is justified in their eyes.
Can you be friends with a pufferfish? Not really. They won’t change if they are getting everything they need from others at no cost to themselves. You can look, but don’t get too close.
