John 17: The Last Prayer

Jesus ends the last supper with a prayer. Now is the time for Jesus to be glorified for the glory of God. He is giving eternal life to all who know him. This is significant because eternal life was withdrawn from humans when they were expelled from Eden for eating the forbidden fruit. Jesus not only came from God, has also existed with God from before the world began. The people God made to commune with him will be reconciled with him forever.

Jesus dedicates his disciples back to God. As their teacher, he had been assigned them and is giving his account of them, having only lost one, Judas. Jesus asks for God to bless them and also the ones that will also believe through their word. This expands the blessing to all believers that come to Christ through hearing or reading, and believing the gospel message. “I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

The end of one thing happens to make room for the beginning of another.
