1 Corinthians 13: 4-13 Loveology

According to Paul, the man that never married, “Love is patient and kind.” In a world where you can be anything, a titan of industry, or a chief of police, kindness and patience often get trampled underfoot. Yet, there is another, better way.

“Love does not envy, or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.” Our society is dominated by politicians, journalists and celebrities, yet this advice is quiet and understated.

“It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.” No Karens yelling at service workers or road rangers swerving through traffic.

“It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” No trolls, haters or conspiracy theorists should apply.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” Love walks with us through the dark nights and rainy days. It holds our hand in hospital rooms and courtrooms, waiting for healing and justice.

“Love never ends.”

“As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.” History books age like milk, heroes fall from grace, and technology becomes obsolete.

“For we know in part, and prophecy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.” Only glimpses are afforded to us in each age and epoch.

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.” The difference between children and adults is responsibility, accountability and reason.

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” Even people we have known for years remain a mystery, because we only see the outside presentation of a person and we can lie to ourselves as much as anyone.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Faith and Hope get us up and out of bed in the mornings, but Love makes everything worthwhile.

Where is the love valve?
