Door to my Heart

This week Tim and I learned how to take apart a door jam and put it back together. We always start these projects thinking they’re going to take an hour, then three days later we are still working on it. I learned more about how a door works. There is a frame and a jam and some shims and some molding and a doorstop and some weatherstripping and insulation. There’s also a latch and the strike plate. There’s a point in all these projects when you’ve got front of the house pulled apart and you wonder if you’re going make it. Then somewhere we turned a corner and we are coming back up out of the valley of doubt.  Now the door starts to function and now it’s better than when we started. We still need

some caulking and sanding and painting to get it back to full beauty.

As Tim went off to work today, I asked him how he felt about the door?  He said felt like he had more confidence in taking care of our 91-year-old house. I too had a warm feeling of bonding over a house project and feeling like we can get through whatever life throws at us next.

We just need to replace a piece of wood, how hard could it be?
