In this section, Paul repeats his warning for a third time. He says if he comes again he will not spare them. The Corinthians keep questioning Paul, but he says they must examine themselves. If they want to see Christ speaking in him, they must prepare for his strength because even though Jesus was crucified in weakness he lives by the power of God.
Paul calls for the believers to look at themselves. Like church goers today, it is easier to be picky about other church members or leaders and less so to ask, what is Christ doing in me? Do you pass the test you are holding up for others? Paul says that he and Titus pray for the Corinthians in weakness and in strength, and the their authority has been given for building up rather than tearing down.
A person without skill swinging a hammer can destroy buildings, but a craftsman with skill swinging the same hammer can fix them. Paul is using his power to renovate the church, not destroy it. How are we using the tools God has given us?
Paul ends his letter with a call for the members of the church in Corinth to restore their relationships by comforting one another, seeking agreement and living in peace with each other, so the God of love and peace can dwell with them.
Paul closes his letter wishing them the grace of Jesus, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
