This chapter repeats the part about God creating man, the word adam meaning of earth, “Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.” Genesis 5:2 

Then it says Adam lived another 800 years after Seth was born and had more daughters and sons. After Seth fathered Enosh, he lived 807 years and had more kids as well. Then it lists several more generations, with each living extremely long. They are Kenan, Mehalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. If you have ever heard of the phrase, “old as Methuselah”, it’s because he lived 969 years. Enoch who “walked with God” only lived 365 years and then was not found because God took him. It is explained more in Hebrews 11:5. “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death.”

The birth of Noah is 1056 years after the creation of Adam, yet because Adam lived so long, he died only 126 before Noah’s birth. Noah’s name means rest and he had three sons: Shem meaning fame, Ham meaning sunburnt, and Japheth meaning to enlarge.
