About a decade ago, Tim and I both bought the same present for the same person. Instead of returning one, Tim suggested that we save the extra in case we need another present someday. He stuck it in the laundry room and we forgot about it until about a month later. We were headed out and I remembered that it was someone’s birthday and he reminded me that we had the spare gift. 

Ever since then we have been stocking sweet little items on that shelf in case somebody’s birthday came up and multiple times we’ve used it. I even bought a pack of colorful craft bags to go with them. 

A slightly worse version of this was my friend’s regifting drawer during college. He would put gifts that he didn’t like unopened in a drawer and then just regift them at the next birthday or holiday.
